Hello fellow prospectors and good morning. It is great to be here speaking with people equally interested in developing their skills and widening their capabilities. My name is Teagan Pacheco and I’m chuffed to have this opportunity to share these considerations with the hopes it may inspire us to be intention and do more with the the time we have.
My background consists of working in IT or Information Technology. My debut in this field began while in college for my associate's degree, and little did I know the capers it would lead me through even to this day. I’m a former Department of Defense contractor from California and a current government contractor as a Cyber Security Engineer. As I’m sure many of you could relate, I didn’t quite plan in high school what I was going to do for my career, nonetheless, I’m glad I ended up where I am today. I am fortunate to have found a position that permits working from home. Our family has enjoyed the benefits of remote work such as 1) always being together, 2) never far from reach, and 3) often within earshot of one another. In all earnestness, we love each other and I take comfort in knowing that in life there are either good times or good stories.
My biased and self-serving assessment of my existing skills includes experience as a project manager, consultant, and systems administrator. In my profession, I strive to uphold company morals, exceed expectations, communicate uncertainties, and establish clear objectives. Like most occupations, there is a feverish competition to stay relevant not only for the client but also for your employer by being prepared and knowledgeable of the latest technological advancements. In another attempt to repel my obsolescence, I have committed myself to obtaining my Master's Degree in Information Technology Management through the online college, Western Governors University or WGU. As I set myself up to trek onward and upward, I ruminate on this quote from the 19th-century Scottish philosopher, Thomas Carlyle, “Permanence, perseverance, and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragements, and impossibilities: it is this that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the weak.” - Thomas Carlyle
Outside of my paid obligations, I am a husband, a father, and a son. I’m an ardent reader with a bibliomaniac for a mother whom most of my unsolicited book recommendations come from. Because of her unabated curiosity, I am an amateur logophile for my interest in language, words, and their etymology. I delight greatly in reading because within each book are the distilled thoughts of their author who could come from anywhere in time, geography, or background. The Stoic philosopher Seneca of Ancient Rome said, “You must linger among a limited number of master-thinkers, and digest their works, if you would derive ideas which shall win firm hold in your mind.” - Seneca. Conversely, I work out for strength through weight training and cardio by running. To support my professional knowledge gaps and skill-building portfolio, I’m learning the popular coding language, Python, when I prioritize it. The remainder of my day is dedicated to household chores, my wife, and our kids. My wife and I have two daughters, ages 7 & 3, and they love to go outside, ride bikes, play at the park, and walk our two-year-old Cocker Spaniel, though, between stints of relentless outbursts, mood swings, and hissy fits.
As a struggling mindful prospector myself, I aim to absorb the wisdom and proficiency found within my past actions, my peers, and my continued pursuit for wisdom so that I may one day give more than I take, and positively contribute to my community in both its uplifting medium and in culture. Of course, there is no ‘I’ in team because we all continually drive one another to be better speakers, doers, and men with every article ultimately making the whole greater than the sum of its parts. If all goes accordingly, this will be my worst post ever delivered because, with each consistent iteration, I will learn, adjust, and develop thanks to the obliging readers.
Thank you again for the remarkably warm welcome to this platform. It is truly a refreshing experience to be received sincerely and with genuine elation. I am eager to see what opportunities will present themselves to me with my continued publications. One final quote I believe to be pertinent to a crowd of active listeners is, "If Liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear." - Alexander Butcher
